In open-pit mining, both stationary and (semi-)mobile construction machinery are used, designed to extract and transport large quantities of material under extreme conditions. These machines must handle enormous forces and ensure the highest reliability. Montanhydraulik develops hydraulic cylinders specifically tailored to withstand the toughest requirements.
From bucket and stick cylinders to boom cylinders and powerful shovel cylinders for large excavators – Montanhydraulik provides robust and durable solutions for all construction machinery. Additionally, hydraulic cylinders are used in mobile crushing plants on tracks, which crush the extracted material directly on-site and prepare it for further transport.
In underground mining, particularly in coal mining, hydraulic cylinders also play an essential role. Montanhydraulik supplies cylinders, for example, for the world's largest longwall face and has developed double telescopic props with bronzed surfaces that can be extended more than 8 meters. These must meet the highest safety requirements and operate reliably in extremely harsh environments.
Application Example: The largest excavators, preferably used in open-pit mining, can load 50 m³ in a single scoop, which is about 100 tons of rock or the volume of a living room with an area of 21 m². For this type of excavator with an operating weight of almost 1,000 tons, Montanhydraulik designs and supplies various cylinders such as boom cylinders, stick cylinders, and bucket cylinders.

Completely mobile opencast crushing systems on crawlers fulfil the function of directly crushing the material excavated on the quarrying site and of conveying it away continuously and in a way that saves resources.
The mobile opencast crushing systems are built in a modular manner, consisting of the supporting steelwork and the following modules: Crawler chassis, crusher module, apron conveyor, feed hopper, discharge belt, and a swivelling discharge boom, which can also be raised and lowered.
The lifting function of the discharge boom is fulfilled by so-called boom cylinders, the manufacture of which was entrusted to the cylinder manufacturer Montanhydraulik. With a stroke of 2.10 m and a weight of 2,675 kg, the hydraulic cylinders can support a static load of up to 1,900 kN. The cylinder for the feed boom is also supplied by the company from Holzwickede.

Roof supports are used in deep mining of mainly hard coal (also copper ore, potash, salt, etc.) to secure and keep open a longwall mining area. The roof support bears the existing rock pressure; in addition, it serves as an abutment for advancing the longwall conveyor and the extraction machine. Below the protective cap of the roof support, the miners can do their work in the secured longwall mining area.
Montanhydraulik develops and produces mine props and the associated corner and advancing cylinders for all common support types. If desired by the customer, all other cylinders integrated in the roof support can be included in the delivery, e.g. splitting cylinders, lining cylinders and bracing cylinders.
Montanhydraulik Group produces two- and three-tier mine props with piston diameters of up to 600 mm and all desired strokes.
